Diversispora C. Walker & Schüßler

TermDescription
Etymology:Latin, referring to the presence of clades that differ in the type of spores they form within the order Diversisporales
Description:Spore development is like that depicted for species in Glomus.
Type species:Glomus spurcum C.M. Pfeiff., C. Walker & Bloss

Spore Development

Species in this genus all have a somewhat unusual spore wall phenotype in that the laminate layer is not rigid but rather tends to flatten somewhat under pressure and thus can vary a bit in thickness. Otherwise, typically glomoid. Specific SSU gene sequences unique to this clade are CYCATTRGYCAGGCTTAATTGTC, TATTGGCATTTAGYCA, and CTTTGGATTRGGGTTTAGGGRTC, corresponding to homologous positions 6459, 1387, and 1673, respectively, of the S. cerevisiae SSU sequence J01353.
